These are some notes about the disk configuration in some of my bare-metal servers and workstations.

According to this it's wise to use dedup for VM storage.

Info commands

To get SATA serial numbers:

# lsblk -I 8 -d -o NAME,SIZE,SERIAL

You can also look here:

# ll /dev/disk/by-id

For NVME serial numbers, e.g.:

# smartctl -i /dev/nvme0n1
