Inspired by The Hacker's Diet I got my estimated daily totals from How Many Calories Should You Eat Per Day to Lose Weight? and I used Calories to Kilojoules (kJ) conversion for conversions.

Estimated daily calories

# To... Cal kJ
1 To maintain weight 2,513 10,514
2 To lose weight 2,010 8,409
3 To lose weight fast 1,508 6,309

If, over a period of time, the calories in the food you eat exceed the calories you burn by 3500, you'll put on about a pound. Conversely, if you reduce your food intake so that you burn 3500 calories more than you eat, you'll lose about a pound.

  • 3,500 cal * 4.184 = 14,644 kJ
  • 1 pound = 0.4535924 kg; 1 kg = 2.204623 lbs
  • 14,644 * 2.204623 = 32,285 kJ to lose 1 kg
